Description

Origin: Borujerd City or a nearby village, Lorestan Province, Iran. This weaving style is more closely associated with rugs of southern Hamadan Province, however the Borujerd area lies just on the other side of the border in Lorestan.

Age: 1970's, about 50 years old.

Design: Geometric all-over lattice of flowers, leaves, stars, palmettes, boteh (seed of life), and more. The interconnected serrated leaves form scarabs on the horizontal axis. In general they are symbols of new life and protection from the evil eye. Main border of palmettes, boteh and a meandering vine.

Colors: Very vibrant and saturated colors. Deep red, midnight indigo, light blue, pink, burnt brown-red, yellow, gold, orange, ivory.

Foundation: Cotton warp and single cotton weft.

Pile: Densely knotted wool pile, sheared somewhat low.

Size: 3 feet 7 inches by 5 feet 2 inches.

Knotting: Symmetrical

Condition: Very good condition with uniform pile and minimal areas of wear.
