Description
Origin: Sistan and Baluchestan Province, Eastern Iran, near the border with Afghanistan.
Age: ~30 years old.
Design: Repeated geometric medallions with a dense design. The center medallions feature many stars or eyes, jagged bands filled with quincunx, and triangular field motifs featuring a tree of life design. Secondary geometric borders surround a main border of a "facing serpents" motif, a fertility and protection sign.
Colors: The rug is overall very dark in tone. Shades of light red and a deep oxidized wine red, green, midnight indigo, natural ivory, light and dark brown, black.
Foundation: Cotton warp and double cotton weft, with a two cord selvage overcast with red wool.
Pile: Dense wool that is very thick and plush. The rug has a very heavy handle.
Size: 3 feet 5 inches by 6 feet 9 inches
Knotting: Asymmetrical
Condition: Very good condition with minimal signs of use.
