This charming vintage Zanjan rug is a quintessential 'village' style of weaving, and features the very classic design for this area of the two protruding medallion arms within a larger stepped diamond. The field is absolutely packed with many geometric, animal, and floral symbols. There are too many to get in to detail, but they generally fall into the categories of protection, abundance, fertility, and life-giving energy. This rug would have been woven from the mind -- no graph paper, just the tradition of the area and expression and style of the weaver, knot by knot. There is some fading on the rug, bringing it a unique slightly muted color palette, but it also has "abrash" -- natural variations in color due to different dye lots. A very durable rug suitable for the floor and high foot traffic.
