SOLD Vintage Persian Nahavand Rug

Origin: Nahavand district, Hamadan Province, Iran. Many weaving villages make up the Nahavand area.

Age: ~1950s, 65-75 years old.

Design: Allover repeating lattice design of abstract floral and geometric motifs. Serrated leaves, barbed diamonds, boteh (seed of life), palmettes, and 8-petal flowers (a symbol of sun/stars) repeat throughout the field. The main border features large palmettes flanked by boteh, with simple trees of life between each, surrounded by secondary borders of a meandering vine and flowers.

Colors: A mix of plant dyes and modern dyes. Several shades of red, pink, many shades of indigo, natural brown, black. Nice variation of color (abrash) from different small dye lots.

Foundation: Cotton warp and single thick cotton weft.

Pile: Very thick wool pile.

Size: ~5x7 feet

Knotting: Symmetrical

Condition: Excellent original condition with very minimal signs of wear, only some mellowing of colors from decades of sun exposure.
