Description

Origin: Village rug of Chahar Mahal and Bakhtiari Province, or Lorestan Province, Iran, along the Zagros Mountain range. The rug was woven by Luri people of this area, who were at one time a nomadic or semi-nomadic group, but have been settled in these areas for some time.

Age: 1970s, ~50 years old

Design: One of the most iconic designs of this region, inspired by Persian walled gardens. The design is called "khesti," meaning bricks or tiles in Farsi, and refers to the checkered pattern. It is often referred to as garden or panel design in English. The square panels are filled with plant and floral designs, mirroring the symmetrical and compartmentalized layout one would find in a walled garden in Iran.

Foundation: Cotton warp and double cotton weft.

Pile: Uniform medium depth pile of very soft wool.

Size: 5 feet by 9 feet 9 inches

Knotting: Symmetrical

Condition: Good condition with minimal signs of wear, some slight sun fading from age, freshly washed.
