This fine Bijar rug perfectly demonstrates why the Kurdish weavers of this city are known for producing the "iron rugs of Persia." The rug is so tightly and densely knotted, with the rows of knots and wefts packed down so hard, it is a stiff as a board and is almost difficult to roll up. Made especially for the floor, this rug can handle just about anything, though you should still treat it nicely =]. The main design is the repeating herati pattern, executed here so small and fine that it is more geometric than floral. The outer border is a repeating boteh.
