This vintage Luri rug has a floppy and blanket-like handle with very soft shiny wool. It is durable for the floor, can handle moderate foot traffic, and would benefit from a thin, dense rug pad due to its all wool foundation. Elements of the design and symbols are heavily influenced by rugs of the Caucasus to the north, particularly the dragon border, latch hooks, and crosses. Most of the symbols on the rug represent protection from the evil eye or evil energy -- the latch hooks, crosses and serrated shapes are meant to break apart and repel it. Within most of these protective designs is a rosette, a symbol of the sun and life-giving energy.
