Description

Origin: Tuyserkan district, Hamadan Province, Iran, or possibly a little further east into Malayer. Many weaving villages make up the Tuyserkan area.

Age: ~1920s, 100-110 years old. The use of wool warps generally indicates at least 1920s or earlier.

Design: Geometric medallion with many small symbols scattered throughout.

Colors: Entirely natural plant dyes. Many shades of indigo, madder root reds and oranges and pinks, vine leaf yellow, greens of yellow and blue overdyed, natural ivory, and more.

Foundation: Both cotton and wool warps and single blue cotton weft.

Pile: High lustre thick wool pile. Some areas of wear and some areas of a “carved” appearance, which is from oxidation of the pile from age.

Size: ~2x4

Knotting: Symmetrical

Condition: Very good condition with thick full pile, small loss of knots of the outer border guard on the bottom which has been professionally secured. Fully immersion washed by hand.
