SOLD - Antique Persian Sarouk Rug

Origin: The area of Arak, Markazi Province, Iran

Age: 1920s, ~100 years old.

Design: Small central floral medallion with dense floral sprays and vases, the most common and popular Sarouk design of the early 1900s. This was made for the American market and dyed with a deeper red dye deemed more desirable upon import, sometimes called a “painted Sarouk.”

Colors: All natural vegetal dyes. Reds, indigo, blues, green, browns.

Foundation: Cotton warp and double blue cotton weft.

Pile: Uniform low pile with very soft, velvety densely stiff wool.

Size: 3 feet 3 inches by 4 feet 9 inches

Knotting: Asymmetrical

Condition: Good original condition with some areas of lower pile and slight wear, with the fringe ends freshly secured and fully washed. Ready for another 100 years on the floor.
