Description
Origin: Village of Lilian, Markazi Province, Iran. Lilian was an Armenian village up until the late 1900s. The village dates back to the forced relocation of Armenians from the Caucasus by Shah Abbas in the 1600s.
Age: ~1920, 100-110 years old.
Design: Allover floral design with a lattice of repeating medallions and eight pointed stars, an uncommon pattern for Lilian rugs, which usually feature busy and detailed floral sprays.
Colors: All natural vegetal dyes. Burnt red, indigo, light blue, green, brown, cream. An uncommon rug that has not been dyed a deep red.
Foundation: Cotton warp and single cotton weft.
Pile: Medium to low pile with varying areas of wear, wool
Size: 3 feet 4 inches by 4 feet 9 inches
Knotting: Symmetrical
Condition: Fair condition with some wear and small holes. The rug has been freshly repaired with secured ends and new indigo wool wrapped over the side cords, washed.
