Description
Origin: Armenian village of the Eastern Caucasus region.
Age: Late 19th century, 130-140 years old.
Design: Allover repeating design of highly stylized 8-pointed stars or cruciforms (erroneously referred to as snowflakes in the trade) with smaller 8-pointed stars within. The bottom major border features prominent crosses. Major and minor borders of dragons/facing serpents, which also represent the letter ‘տ.’
Colors: All natural vegetal dyes. Burnt red, salmon, pink, light and dark brown, indigo, light blue, teal, green, ivory, yellow, black.
Foundation: Twisted light and dark wool warp and double wool weft.
Pile: Uniformly low wool pile.
Size: 3 feet 7 inches by 4 feet 3 inches
Knotting: Symmetrical, very finely and tightly knotted.
Condition: Fair condition, distressed with wear and oxidation causing a carved appearance. The rug has been freshly repaired with secured ends, new ivory wool side cords and washing. The rug is ideal for a wall hanging or furniture covering.
