Description

Origin: Heriz area of East Azerbaijan Province, Iran.

Age: 1950s, about 70 years old.

Design: Classic Heriz large scale central medallion with a huge amount of floral and geometric designs scattered throughout the entire rug. It is truly a work of art and the amount of detail is staggering. Classic angular oak leaves, palmettes, blossoms, etc., cover the field.

Colors: The rug is a mix of both natural and synthetic dyes, and there are too many colors to possibly list. The rug is so large that many dye lots were used across the rug, leading to wide variations in color and abrash.

Foundation: Cotton warp and cotton wefts. Typical Heriz weave of double cord sides wrapped in a figure 8, and alternating single and double wefts.

Pile: Very thick and dense wool pile.

Knotting: Symmetrical knots, with more than 1.75 million individual knots tied (approx 80-90 per square inch.) Likely woven by multiple weavers over the course of 6-9 months.

Size: Approximately 11x13. The rug is not perfectly square but averages 10 feet 8 inches by 11 feet 3 inches.

Condition: Very good condition with original sides and ends intact and minimal wear.
