Khal Mohammadi style Afghan Rug

Origin: Khal Mohammadi style rug woven by Turkmen weavers in the area of Kunduz, Afghanistan.

Age: In the rug trade this is considered a new or contemporary rug but could be up to 10-20 years old.

Design: Geometric floral style three medallion. The rug is covered in flowers and abstract eyes (protection from the evil eye) and spiked borders that resemble a mountainous landscape.

Colors: Khal Mohammadi rugs, named after a famous dye master from the area, are known for their natural dyes and very complex shades of red from the madder root plant. It is very difficult to properly photograph this red. Many shades of red from madder root, blues from indigo, browns from walnut husk, ivory.

Foundation: Wool warp and double wool weft, which gives the rug a very floppy handle.

Pile: Dense wool pile of medium depth.

Size: 2 feet 9 inches by 4 feet 5 inches

Knotting: Asymmetrical

Condition: Excellent original condition with almost no signs of use.
